Women’s Tennis Downed by Nova Southeastern University, 8-1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Against another opponent that may as well be within the International Tennis Association's (ITA) Top-25 programs in the nation, the Eckerd College women's tennis team fell on its home court against 26th-ranked Nova Southeastern University on Saturday morning, 8-1.

Freshman Taylor Bullock rallied in an inspiring victory and accounted for the lone singles win for the Tritons (1-7, 0-5 SSC), who return to the Turley Athletic Complex again on Sunday morning.

Bullock has two head-to-head wins in singles matches this season, her other triumph coming against Cumberland (Tenn.) University.

“I am proud of the girls today; they played a tough team this morning,” EC assistant coach Ben Maxwell said. “I am especially happy with Taylor Bullock's play; she came out after getting beat in the first set and found a way to turn things around. Her focus and dedication shined through today because it isn't easy to bounce back after losing the first set 6-1.”

“This year is flying by but every match is a stepping stone for bigger and better things,” he continued. “Everyone is getting the experience they need to play in this conference.”

The Tritons' top two doubles tandems ceded their matchups by 8-3 decisions, respectively.
Carson Trapp and Amy Naula each won a set from their opponent in the No. 3 and 4 singles slots before being edged out in the end.

Eckerd's tennis teams (men and women) will hit the courts early tomorrow with a 10 a.m. non-conference contest against Bentley (Mass.) University.
