Women’s Soccer Falls to Webber International University, 0-4

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Magen Carey scored a goal and added an assist as Webber International University defeated the Eckerd College women's soccer team on Monday evening at the Turley Athletic Complex, 4-0.

Amanda Solis, Jessica Morejon and Brittany Cox, also scored for the Warriors (3-4-1 overall), who received a defensive shutout pitched by goalkeeper Sam Keller.

The Tritons (3-5, 0-1 SSC) managed 11 shots, including five by freshman Arielle Anahory, but unfortunately to no avail on the offensive end.

Solis recorded the only score in the first half as EC goalkeeper Lauren Fernandez made a valiant effort with outstretched fingertips to try and slow down a free kick that was just out of her reach.

The 25-yard boot from Solis on the left side of the field gave WIU a 1-0 advantage in the 24th minute.

The Tritons put the pressure on Webber International before halftime, manufacturing numerous corner kick opportunities and were stalled by several offsides calls that were indicitive of the Eckerd offense making its way downfield.

But the Warriors flashed their speed down the middle of the field in the second half, threading the seam for goals in the 56th, 70th and 87th minutes.

Morejon raced to catch up to a ball that was passed by Carey from the left side for a goal at the 56:15 mark and Carey returned the favor on the scoring end from the opposite side about 14 minutes later.

With Webber International holding a three-goal edge, Brittany Cox capped the scoring down the right side with a shot that just beat charging netminder Morgan Crescent.

Crescent relieved Fernandez at the intermission and they combined for six saves on 15 shots faced.

The Tritons head to Temple Terrace, Fla., on Thursday for another non-conference matchup, this time at Florida College. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
