TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa had all five starters score in double figures, as the Spartans took a 63-51 win over the visiting Eckerd College women's basketball team on Wednesday.
Gianna Messina scored 13 points, and Lindsey Watson added 11 to help Tampa (17-5, 9-3 Sunshine State Conference) defeat the Tritons (13-9, 6-6) for the second time this year.
Catriana Messina recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Taja Green and Jaleesa Harmon each contributed 10 points.
Linsey Niles led the Tritons with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting. It was the third time in the last five games that the junior scored in double figures.
She also helped the Eckerd bench outscore the Tampa reserves 29-9.
Despite Tampa shooting just 26 percent in the first half, the Spartans still managed a 22-21 lead at halftime. Eckerd led throughout the half before Tampa took its first lead of the game with 1:19 left and never trailed again.
The Spartans shot 52 percent in the second half to finish at 38 percent overall. Eckerd shot 36 percent and was just 4-for-19 from 3-point range (21 percent).
The Tritons will continue a two-game road trip at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Nova Southeastern.
