Baseball Gets Bats Going in Win Over FMU

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College baseball team used a four-run sixth inning to rally for a 10-7 win over visiting Florida Memorial on Friday at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Freshman shortstop Alex Del Monte went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the sixth, as Eckerd (5-2) won for the fourth time in its last five outings.

Wess Hollins went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while David Regidor and Stephen Pelc each added two hits. The Tritons tallied a season-high 12 hits.

Robbie Nabers (1-0) got the win in relief for Eckerd, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out three.

Brian Bernatowicz (0-3) took the loss for FMU (1-7). Erick Yglesias went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for the Lions.

Eckerd scored six runs in its first two at-bats, but FMU scored at least one run in four straight innings to eventually grab a 7-6 lead in the sixth.

But the Tritons put together four hits in the sixth, with Del Monte putting Eckerd up for good with a two-run double to left field.

The two teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
