Eckerd-Florida Tech Box Score
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Freshman guard Alex Bodney hit a pair of free throws with 0.5 seconds remaining to lift the Eckerd College men's basketball team to a 65-63 win at Florida Tech on Saturday.
Bodney scored nine points and was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line, helping the Tritons gain a huge edge at the charity stripe, as Eckerd (19-6, 10-5 Sunshine State Conference) won its fourth straight game.
Lance Kearse led Eckerd with 16 points and was the only Triton in double figures. Eckerd overcame 26 turnovers but was helped by shooting 72 percent from the free-throw line (23-for-32), while the Panthers struggled to shoot 55 percent (10-for-18).
Justin Sedlak led Florida Tech (18-10, 8-6) with 18 points on 7-for-20 shooting. Eckerd held the hosts scoreless during the game's final 6:11, helping the Tritons rally from a 10-point deficit in the final 7:49.
The teams were tied at 63-63 when Bodney tried a desperation 3-pointer with under a second left. The shot missed, but Florida Tech's Demetrius Harvey was whistled for a foul.
Bodney calmly stepped to the line and made both free throws to hand Eckerd its second win against the Panthers this season.
The Tritons will play their final regular season home game at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday against Saint Leo. The game can be seen online at EckerdTritons.com.
