Men’s Soccer Gears Up For SSC Tournament Quarterfinals at No. 3 Seed Rollins College

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - As one of two quarterfinal matches to be played tomorrow evening, the Eckerd College men's soccer team is preparing to begin the postseason as the sixth seed in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament at No. 3 seed Rollins College.

The Tritons will head to Winter Park to face the Tars at 7 p.m. and the winner will advance to the semifinal round to play second-seeded Florida Tech in Melbourne on Friday for an 11 p.m. showdown.

“Rollins has been nationally ranked all year and we know it's a tough game,” EC Head Coach Steve Magee said. “Training has been very good the last couple days and we certainly feel like we'll be ready for the challenge.”

The Tars head into the game with a 12-3 overall record and a current national ranking in the NSCAA Top-25 Coaches Poll of fifth in the nation. RC upended the Tritons in the regular-season meeting on Oct. 21 by a 3-1 decision.

Eckerd outshot Rollins 14-12 when it was all said and done, but three quick goals in the first half led to the Tritons' demise. Freshman Nick Murawski thwarted the Tars' shutout bid with an unassisted goal in the second half.

“Rollins plays a certain way and we'll have to counter with a combative style,” Magee said. “We're excited to be in the tournament and really wanted to be here at the start of the season.”
