ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.
– The Eckerd College women's golf program tackled another one of the Sunshine State's most challenging courses in its fall finale, completing first-day competition at the Flagler Fall Slam Invitational on Monday.

With one round in the books, the Tritons carded a team total of 372 at the Marsh Creek Country Club. As a team, Eckerd is currently in 19th of 20 programs in attendance with one more round remaining.

Unfortunately, it was a tough day on the links for the Tritons as sophomore Mara Shingleton scratched a first-round total of 88 to lead Eckerd at a tie for 69th.

Jenee Vanderstyne was just two strokes back with a 90 (t80th) while scoring leader Georgia Gordon and Christina Brewster recorded respective 97's.

Also in the starting rotation was Whitney Edwards, who withdrew due to unknown circumstances.

Lynn University (308) leads the team race by four strokes over Barry University (312). Lynn's Samantha Smolen is leading all players in the race for medalist honors after shooting a 1-over-par 73.

The Tritons will complete the second and final round of play tomorrow morning on the 6,602-yard layout.
