Eckerd-Tampa Box Score
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Anthony Griffis and Ashton Graham combined for 39 points and 17 rebounds to lift No. 25 Tampa to a 77-70 win over No. 23 Eckerd College on Wednesday evening at the McArthur Center.
Griffis had a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds, as the Spartans (13-0, 3-0 Sunshine State Conference) remained undefeated. Graham added 15 points and eight boards. Standout guard Rashad Callaway contributed 14 points and nine assists.
Senior guard John Harper led Eckerd (11-2, 2-1) with 15 points, one of four Tritons in double figures. Woody Taylor had 11 points and five assists, while Dale Carn and Lance Kearse each tallied 10 points.
Eckerd had a 10-game winning streak snapped.
The Tritons were held to a season-low 37 percent shooting night, while Tampa hit at a 49 percent clip.
Eckerd did out-rebound the Spartans 47-33, including a 21-8 edge on the offensive glass.
Despite the rebounding advantage, the Tritons were down 40-24 with 2:54 left in the first half but managed to cut the deficit to 43-33 at halftime.
A Callaway layup gave Tampa a 69-59 advantage with 4:52 remaining before the Tritons went on a 11-4 run to cut the margin to 73-70 with 29.4 seconds left.
But Callaway made four free throws to close it out.
Eckerd will travel to Rollins for a 4 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
