ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College men's basketball team shot 54 percent from the field during a 66-53 win over visiting Barry on Sunday in Sunshine State Conference action.
Wayne Sears Jr. scored 15 points, and Dale Carn had 12 as the Tritons (11-1, 2-0 SSC) won their 10th straight contest. The duo helped Eckerd shoot 58 percent in the first half. The Tritons have shot 50 percent or better from the field in eight of their last 10 games.
Eckerd also held the Buccaneers (3-7, 0-2) to 36 percent shooting. Willie Whitfield led Barry with a game-high 22 points, including 15 in the first half.
The Tritons never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 19 in the second half. Eckerd held a 38-28 lead at halftime after scoring 12 of the game's first 14 points.
Eckerd will play host to Tampa at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will be part of an SSC doubleheader with the women's team, which plays Tampa at 5:30 p.m.
