Eckerd-Barry Box Score
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball team dropped a five-set marathon at Barry (17-25, 25-20, 28-26, 14-25, 8-15) on Friday in Sunshine State Conference action.
Julia Teixeira had a match-high 23 kills, along with 19 digs, as the Bucs (4-1, 1-0 SSC) won for the fourth time in five outings.
Teixeira was one of four Bucs to record double-figure kills. Ady Alcantara had 15 kills and 19 digs, while Stefanie Sveiven and Lanie Muys had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Lindsay Biggs had 13 kills and 14 digs to lead the Tritons (5-5, 0-2), and Ariana Chinn had 12 kills. But Eckerd could not overcome a .110 hitting percentage, including 17 attack errors in the final two sets.
Hallie Ward had a season-high 28 digs for the Tritons, though Barry did have 16 more digs overall (89-73).
Despite the Barry defense, the Tritons had things under control through three sets. After Barry used a 16-5 run to win the first set, Eckerd battled back to hit .242 in the second set to tie it.
The Tritons seemingly took the momentum in the third, fighting off a set point to rally for a 28-26 win to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
The Bucs, however, held the Eckerd offense in check from there. Sveiven had six blocks assists in the final two sets, helping to hold the Tritons to a -.092 hit percentage in sets four and five.
Eckerd will try to bounce back on Saturday with a 4 p.m. SSC match at Nova Southeastern.
