ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd women's tennis team competed against conference rival Saint Leo University in their last regular and conference match of the season at the Turley Athletic Complex.  At the end of the day, it was Saint Leo who were winners, edging the Tritons to a 5-4 win.
The Tritons (3-11, 1-7 SSC) took two of three doubles matches away from the Lions (7-12, 2-6 SSC).  Amanda Teets and Emmy Laing had a back-and-forth battle with their competition in the No. 1 slot, but ran away with the victory, 9-7.  The team of Stephanie Jenks and Manon Ironside at No. 2 doubles defeated their opponents, 8-3.
Two Eckerd players earned victories in their single matches.  Teets was able to take out her competition 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.  The last victory came from Christine Hammerschmidt, who outplayed her No. 5 singles opponent 6-2, 6-2.
The Tritons will take a short break until they return to the courts, as they get set to participate in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, which will be held at the Beerman Tennis Complex in Lakeland, Florida.  The tournament will start on April 15th.
