ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - With their 5-4 win over conference foe The University of Tampa on Wednesday afternoon, the Eckerd women's tennis team has earned a spot in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament on April 15th, which will be held at Florida Southern College.
The Tritons (3-10, 1-6 SSC) took two of three doubles matches from the Spartans. Emmy Laing and Amanda Teets took out their competition in the No. 1 slot, 8-1. No. 2 doubles Stephanie Jenks and Manon Ironside had a hard fought match with their opponent, coming out with an 8-6 victory.
Laing, Teets, and Jenks were victorious for Eckerd in their single matches. In the No. 1 slot, Laing defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-2. Jenks won in the No. 2 spot, being victorious by default. Teets won both her sets as the No. 3 singles player, winning both matches with a score of 7-5.
The Tritons will return to action Friday, April 9th, as they get set to take on Saint Leo University in their final regular season match, which will be held at the Turley Athletic Complex on the campus of Eckerd College. The match is set to start at 3:00 pm.
