Men's Tennis Captures First Win Defeating Saint Leo, 8-1

SAINT LEO, Fla
. - The Eckerd men's tennis  team broke their five game losing streak as they defeated conference foe Saint Leo University, 8-1, at the Saint Leo Tennis Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.  This brings Eckerd's record to 1-5.

Eckerd dominated the Lions in singles action.  Ben Maxwell was the winner at No. 1 singles, defeating Yves Jacobs 6-0, 6-2.  Hisa Sato took the No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0 against Jose Morales.  Adam Hopkins was victorious in No. 3 singles, defeating Richard Maclachlan in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).  Taking down his opponent in two sets (6-3, 6-4), Erik Thunberg won at the No. 4 spot.  Jon Bonner defeated Michael Calloway (6-0, 6-4) at No. 5 singles, while Alex Mcdonald took down Julian Jean-Pierre (6-3, 6-1).

In doubles action, Saint Leo was able to take away the in No. 2 spot.  Maxwell and Sato were victorious at the No. 1 spot, as Aaron Kleefield and James Walker defeated Tim Balz-Herrmann and Calloway in No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

Eckerd will look to win their next match as they get set to host University Southern Indiana, Sunday, March 7th at the Turley Athletic Complex.  Match is set to start at 12 noon.
