Rausberg Ties 3-Point Season Record as Tritons Defeat Lions, 69-56

Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In the celebration of seniors Stephanie Grace and Laticia Rolle, the Eckerd women's basketball team defeated the Saint Leo University Lions (13-13, 6-9 SSC) by the score of 69-56 at the McArthur Center on Wednesday, February 24th.  Eckerd now improves their record to 10-14 over all and 4-11 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Eckerd dominated the hardwood, not letting St. Leo grab the lead the entire first half.  The Tritons had a 14-pont lead at the 4:12 minute mark, all thanks to Kati Rausberg who sank in four three-pointers to give Eckerd the 32-20 lead.  St. Leo's Brittany Carannante was able to cut that lead short with just a minute left into the half, sinking in a three-pointer and hitting a lay up with 20 seconds left of the half, to cut Eckerd's lead by three, bringing the score 37-34 at the intermission.  Both Rausberg and Carannante ended the half with 14 points a piece for their teams.

The Tritons picked up were they left off in the second half, having an 11-0 run with just minutes into the half on the Lions.  Eckerd's largest lead came with just 1:30 left of the game when Ashley Lutz hit a three pointer just outside the top of the key to bring the score to 67-50 to be 17 points up in St. Leo.  Within the last minute of play, the ball was in St. Leo's possession, doing all that they could to make points, but it was too much of a lead for the Lions to make a comeback, making the final score 69-56.

Rausberg had a stellar performance for the Tritons.  Not only did she lead Eckerd with 20 points, but she also tied the single season record in Eckerd women's basketball history in three-pointers, going 6-for-7, giving her a total of 63 three-pointers.  Lutz scored 15 points with five assists and #Tijana Brdar had 13 points with five assists.

Eckerd will finalize their season on Saturday, February 27th and they travel over to Winter Park to take on Rollins College.  Tip off is set for 2:00 pm.
