Melbourne, Fla. - The Eckerd women's basketball team improved their record to 9-12 and 3-9 in the Sunshine State Conference as they defeated Florida Tech 83-72, Saturday night at the Clemente Center in Melbourne, Florida.
It was Tritons' ball for the first half of the game as they dominated over the Panthers. The only time that Florida Tech was in the lead was at the 17:55 mark, when they were ahead only by one point. Eckerd went on to take an 18 point lead over Florida Tech with five minutes of play left in the game. The Panthers slowly came back towards the end of the half, cutting the deficit by eight points after Ashton McClairen hit a three-pointer with just four seconds left, making it a 46-38 intermission score.
Ashley Lutz picked up 17 of her 29 points in the first half of the game. Eckerd went 17-for-23 from the field during the half, while the Panthers went 14-for-30. The Tritons hit six out of nine three-pointers, three of which came from Lutz.
Florida Tech came out hot in the second half of the game, going on a 10-2 run against the Tritons, eventually tying up the game at 48-48. After Eckerd's Jordan Stacey made two free throws, the Tritons made it their game and dominated the rest of the night, not letting the Panthers regain another lead.
Along with Lutz scoring 29 for the Tritons, Stephanie Grace picked up 15 and Krystal Charles had 13.
The Tritons will hit the hardwood on Wednesday, February 17th, as they travel over to the University of Tampa to take the on the Spartans. Tip off is set for 5:30 on.
