Charles Has Career Night in Loss to West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Eckerd College women's basketball team fell to West Florida 75-69 Friday night in Pensacola, Fla. at the Highpointe Hotel Corporation Classic.

Sophomore forward Krystal Charles had a career night, leading the Tritons with 24 points shooting 71 percent from the field. The London, England native shot three-for-four from three-point range and added nine rebounds on the night.

The Tritons started the game off strong, leading 15-8 after back-to-back three pointers from junior guard Taylor Young and Charles.

The Argonauts responded with a 9-3 run to cut the lead to one point with seven minutes remaining in the first half. The game was tied at the half, with both teams hitting over 47 percent of their shots from the field. The Tritons led for more than 16 minutes in the first half.

The Argos came out strong in the second half, holding the lead for more than 12 minutes while connecting on 12 of 15 free throws.

West Florida led by eight points with five minutes remaining in the second half, but a 7-0 Triton run brought the deficit back to one point. The next play, however, Charles fouled out of the game as the Argonauts held on for the victory.

Coming off the bench, West Florida's Jade Howard led the Argonauts with a career high 20 points. Senior forward Octavia Bearden also had a huge impact, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Although the Tritons shot 52 percent from the field on the night, West Florida dominated the glass, grabbing 12 offensive rebounds and scoring 19 second chance points. West Florida out-rebounded Eckerd College 38-27.

Eckerd scored a season high 32 points in the paint.
