BOCA RATON, Fla. – Eckerd College senior guard John Harper scored 23 points and was 7-for-8 from 3-point range to lead the Tritons to an 88-68 win at Lynn on Saturday.
Harper helped Eckerd (8-1, 1-0 Sunshine State Conference) shoot 73 percent (11-for-15) from beyond the arc -- handing the Tritons their seventh straight win.
Wayne Sears Jr. added 14 points off the bench, while seniors Lance Kearse (11 points) and Dale Carn (10) also scored in double figures.
Eckerd shot 59 percent overall, marking the fifth time in the last seven games that the Tritons have shot 55 percent or better.
Jimmy Gaskins and Rodney Kennedy each scored 12 points for Lynn (2-6, 0-1). Eckerd held the Fighting Knights to 37 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers.
The Tritons built a double-figure lead in the first half thanks to 72 percent shooting. Eckerd was 7-for-8 from 3-point range and used a 10-2 spurt midway through the half to grab a 32-22 advantage with 7:37 left.
After trailing 50-39 at halftime, Lynn started the second half with a Kennedy trey to cut the margin to 50-42. But Carn responded with a jumper to give Eckerd a 52-42 lead with 19:21 left.
The Tritons never led by less than 10 after the 18:22 mark.
Eckerd will take a break for final exams before traveling to Fort Lauderdale on Friday to face Franklin Pierce at the Cruzin Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
