ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball team closed out the 2010 home season in style with a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-12, 25-23) over Florida Tech on Wednesday at the McArthur Center.
Freshman outside hitter Lindsay Biggs led the Tritons (9-15, 2-11 Sunshine State Conference) with 12 kills, part of a balanced Eckerd offense which hit .337 overall – its best percentage in a conference match this year.
The Tritons had eight service aces, including five from Taylor Whaley.
Shelby DeNeice led the Panthers (10-18, 1-12) with a match-high 15 kills.
The Tritons, who avenged a 3-1 loss at Florida Tech on Sept. 29, hit .464 in the first set to grab a quick 1-0 lead.
In the second, Eckerd scored seven of the first nine points and hit .323 en route to a commanding 2-0 advantage.
Florida Tech made things interesting in the third, eventually forcing a 19-19 tie. But the Tritons won six of the final 10 points to close it out.
Eckerd will start a three-match road trip on Friday with a 7 p.m. match at Lynn.
