Florida Southern-Eckerd Box Score
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Florida Southern had four players record double-digit kills, as the Moccasins took a 3-1 win (25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19) over the Eckerd College volleyball team on Friday at the McArthur Center.
Lauren Huber had 16 kills, while Kelly Sherman, Diana Castrillon and Anne Pietkiewicz each had 10 to lead the Mocs (13-4, 6-2 Sunshine State Conference). Anna Niebuhr had a match-high 27 digs.
Lindsay Biggs paced the Tritons (5-11, 0-7) with 19 kills, giving the freshman 38 kills in her last two matches.
Bri Smith contributed 21 assists and a team-best 15 digs.
The Mocs hit .234 overall, including an impressive .353 in the opening set. Florida Southern also had 10 total blocks compared to six for Eckerd.
After the Mocs took the early lead, the Tritons battled back in the second. The hosts jumped out to a 20-10 advantage – keyed by six kills on 10 swings by Biggs.
Florida Southern, though, took the momentum in the third – rallying from a 22-20 deficit to take a 2-1 lead.
The Mocs defense was strong in the fourth, holding Eckerd to a .085 hit percentage.
The Tritons will wrap up a three-match homestand on Saturday, hosting Rollins at 4 p.m.
Prior to the match, Eckerd will host a tailgate party beginning at 3 p.m. at the McArthur Center. Free food and soft drinks will be provided, along with $1 beers.
