Volleyball Gets SSC Win Over Nova Southeastern

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Olivia Fraser had 16 kills to lead the Eckerd College volleyball team to a 3-1 win (18-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21) over visiting Nova Southeastern on Friday in Sunshine State Conference play.

Lindsay Biggs added 13 kills and nine digs, as the Tritons (7-13, 1-9 SSC) picked up their first league win. Eckerd held NSU (7-13, 2-7) to a .135 hit percentage.

Hallie Ward had 25 digs, and the Tritons had eight total blocks.

Danielle Graham led the Sharks with 11 kills, while Kathleen Yony tallied 23 digs.

After dropping the first set, Eckerd picked up the first six points in the second to take a quick lead. NSU got the deficit down to 9-7 before the Tritons rallied with five consecutive points. Eckerd held the Sharks to a .038 hit percentage to even the match.

The Tritons never trailed in the third set, as the offense hit .335 thanks to just one attack error.

In the fourth, Eckerd used an 8-1 run to get a 15-8 lead before holding on late.

Taylor Whaley hit .400 thanks to seven kills on 15 attacks. Eckerd also had seven service aces.

The Tritons will wrap up an SSC weekend homestand against Barry at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
