Box Score
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Eckerd Tritons men's soccer team started the game strong, but could not seal the deal as Saint Leo scored three consecutive goals in the second half to earn the 3-2 victory on Wednesday.
“I felt like we had opportunities in the first half to put the game out of reach,” head coach Steve Magee said. “You can't expect to win a game though when your opponent scores three goals. The second half we hit the cross bar twice, and in the last seconds we had an opportunity to tie the game. The response from the team was tremendous (after giving up the third goal); I can't fault the energy and desire of my players but overall the quality wasn't there to finish the game.”
Senior defender
Mike McGee scored the first goal of the match three minutes into the game off a deflection from a set piece from senior midfielder
Kiki Gonzalez. This was McGee's fourth goal of the season.
Gonzales headed in the second goal of the game in the 15th minute off a cross from freshman midfielder
Daniel Lopez. This was the third goal of the season for Gonzales; the second assist for Lopez.
Saint Leo responded in the 63rd minute with a goal from striker Jonathan Glenn. A minute and a half later the Lions equalized with a goal headed in by junior defender Eishun Yoshida.
Glenn scored again off a header in the 82nd minute off an assist from Yoshida, giving the Lions the lead. Saint Leo held on for the remainder of the match to earn their third conference win of the season.
The Tritons will play host to Ave Maria on Monday Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Results will be posted on eckerdtritons.com.
