Volleyball Falls in Marathon Five-Set Match vs. Lynn

Eckerd-Lynn Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Lynn University rallied to take the final two sets in a 3-2 win (21-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 15-13) over the Eckerd College volleyball team on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center.

Katie Bradley and Mallory Deneen each had 13 kills, and the Lynn defense had 104 total digs as the Fighting Knights (10-5, 3-3 Sunshine State Conference) held Eckerd to a .149 hit percentage.

Lacy Redwine had 26 digs, while setter Devon Woolard added 21 digs along with a match-high 55 assists.

The Knights spoiled a career day for Eckerd freshman Lindsay Biggs, who had a season-best 19 kills and 27 digs. Hallie Ward tallied 21 digs, and outside hitter Ariana Chinn had 13 kills. Freshman middle blocker Niara Greathouse led the Tritons with seven block assists.

Lynn, which trailed 2-1 entering the fourth set, held the Tritons offense to a .026 percentage to force a deciding fifth. Eckerd jumped out to a 7-3 advantage before the Knights got back in it thanks largely to Deneen (four kills, five digs in the fifth set).

Earlier in the match, Eckerd seemingly had control after a huge rally in the third set. Down 23-16, the Tritons scored the next six points before Lynn took a 24-22 lead on a Sophie Gagnon kill.

Eckerd came right back, though, to score the next three points – capping off the set with back-to-back kills from freshman Kaleigh Humphrey.

The Tritons, who were playing just their second home match of the year, will continue a three-match homestand at 7 p.m. on Friday against Florida Southern.
