The Eckerd Tritons have had a challenging season thus far, compiling a record of 0-3-1. The most recent game against the Embry Riddle Eagles on Sunday ended with the Tritons on the losing end, with a final score of 4-0.
“We started out strong, for probably about the first ten or fifteen minutes. We actually scored a goal, and it was called back for offsides,” said Head Coach Joe McCauley.
Then, 15 minutes into the second half, the game was delayed for 30 minutes due to rain. “We lost our focus a little bit, came out a little flat, and struggled to regain our concentration,” McCauley stated.
The Tritons' next game is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th at home versus Saint Leo University (0-0-1). Three of their games have already been canceled, so it promises to be an intriguing match-up between the two teams.
“It is going to be challenging. Saint Leo was the preseason conference favorite this year, so it's going to be a good measuring stick for us as to where we might find ourselves in the conference. Overall, I think we can do a good job, and I think for them not playing that much, we have the potential time to maybe get a result.”
With 11 games left in the season, the Tritons hope to end their losing streak and seal some victories. Eckerd is hoping for an excellent fan turnout at the Turley Athletic Complex as that can have an effect on the outcome of the game. Coach McCauley agrees, as he stated, “There have been times in the past, with good crowd support and people cheering, that we have found ourselves sticking with the best team in the conference, and with the support and encouragement of our fans, we are able to keep our game and confidence up.”
