LAKELAND, Fla. - Down 2-0 the Eckerd Tritons (9-6, 3-3 SSC) stormed all the way back, taking down the 17th-ranked Florida Southern Moccasins, 3-2 (16-25, 19-25, 27-25, 25-21, 18-16)) on Saturday night at Jenkins Fieldhouse.
Ariana Chinn paced the Tritons' attack with a match-high 21 kills while amassing a stellar .419 attack percentage while
Taylor Manning contributed to the comeback victory with 12 kills on just 20 attempts to go along with six total blocks.
The turning point in the match proved to be in the third set when a Mocs' service ace put Florida Southern ahead 21-17, forcing Coach Courtney Draper to call a timeout. Afterwards, the Tritons would go on to score five of the next six points to tie the set at 22-22. A kill by FSC's Kelly Sherman gave the Mocs a 25-24 lead but Chinn would record back-to-back kills to give Eckerd the lead en route to the 27-25 victory.
In the fifth and final set, the two teams were deadlocked at 16 all before Chinn once again put the Tritons ahead for good.
Lydee Benoit added 13 kills with a team-leading 18 digs while
Bri Smith and
Megan Golovkin each added 27 set assists.
Julia Borecka led the Mocs with 20 kills while Anne Pietkiewicz added 15. Eckerd out-blocked Southern 9-5 while out-hitting the Mocs .284 to .273.
The Tritons will return to the hardwood on Tuesday, October 6 at it travels to Tampa, Fla. to take on the Tampa Spartans at 7pm at the Martinez Center.
