Volleyball Wins Five-Set Thriller vs. Lynn

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - One day after falling in a five-set, heartbreaking marathon, the Eckerd Tritons (14-9, 5-5 SSC) defeated the Lynn Fighting Knights (17-8, 4-6 SSC) by a score of 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 21-25, 16-14) on Saturday afternoon, led by Lydee Benoit's 21 kills, 13 digs, and four solo blocks.

In the fifth and decisive set, which saw nine ties and five lead changes, Lynn took a 13-11 lead on a kill by Sophie Gagnon. Following a timeout, however, the Tritons would go on to score three straight points, taking the lead on a service ace by Bri Smith, before scoring five of the set's final six points to notch the 16-14 win.

For the match, Eckerd hit ..219 while the Knights hit just .194. Ariana Chinn tallied 12 assists while Smith amassed 41 set assists. Hallie Ward led the Tritons with 14 digs while Olivia Fraser and Benoit notched seven and total blocks, respectively.

Eckerd will return to action on Wednesday, October 28 as it travels to the Winter Park, Fla. to battle the Rollins Tars at 7pm.
