ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd College Men's Soccer team could not snap its losing streak as they were defeated by Palm Beach Atlantic 0-4. It was a disappointing game as the Tritons' seniors were being honored for their years of commitment to the program.
In the first half, PBA out shot the Tritons 7-2. This gave PBA enough chances in the first half to score, which they did. In the 21st minute, PBA's Kyle Crouse scored after beating Eckerd's defense. With the Triton offense not being able to click, PBA's Mark Cabrera scored the team's second goal in the 30th minute. Crouse came back two minutes to score on a free kick due following a yellow card to
Alex Patterson to finish the half with a 3-0 lead.
The Tritons were able to come off half time much stronger on both sides of the ball.
The offense, lead by Anthony Arico's three shots, were able to tally a total of nine shots but still was not able to connect with the goal. Coach Jeremy Wisdo stated, “We just missed our chances, we had a couple good ones [but] we just didn't get it turned on target.” However, PBA's offense was not done. After a red card was given to goalkeeper
Domenic Spedaliere, senior
Adam Skiff took over in goal and, on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute, PBA's Cheyne Roberts scored.
Hopefully, the team will be able to regroup as they turn their focus to Sunshine State Conference opponent Florida Tech. “We just need to keep our head down and keep working hard and try to make our own luck right now,” Coach Wisdo said. Eckerd wil face the Panthers on Wednesday, October 28 in Melbourne, Fla.
