Women's Soccer Beats Clearwater Christian, 3-0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd Tritons (2-9-1) grabbed an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Clearwater Christian Cougars (6-10) by a score of 3-0 on Saturday evening at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Emily Johnson scored the game's first goal, 61 seconds in, as she dispossessed a Cougar defender and dribbled the ball down the right wing before sneaking a shot past Cougar keeper Megan Dixon for an early 1-0 leader.

In the 28th minute, Maddy Anderson expanded the Tritons' lead to 2-0 as she took a pass from Mary Grayson Nix, ran through the middle of the Clearwater Christian back line and scored her second goal of the season. For Nix, the assist was her first career point.

In the 56th minute, Miranda Rivera scored her first career goal after Spencer Janicki found her with a through ball, once again through the middle of the Cougar defense.

Eckerd goalkeeper Cassie Burke earned her first career clean sheet needing to make just one save in her first career start while Clearwater Christian's Dixon made nine saves in a losing effort.

Eckerd will return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 20 as it hosts Flagler at 7pm on senior night.
