Billy Evers Jr., a former Eckerd student-athlete and volunteer assistant coach, joined the Triton Athletics administrative staff in August 2016. He currently serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Advancement and Operations. As a member of the senior management team, Evers leads all advancement efforts within the athletics department. His primary focus areas include alumni engagement, the cultivation and stewardship of Triton Club and Teal & Steel members, and the development of corporate sponsorship opportunities.
He enters his 10 year on the athletic administrative staff for the 2025-26 season, and his 14th total year on staff at EC. Â
Evers began his administrative career as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in August 2016. He transitioned to Assistant Director of Athletics for Advancement and Internal Operations in fall 2019 and was promoted to Associate Director of Athletics for Advancement and Operations in August 2022.
Under his leadership, Eckerd Athletics has achieved unprecedented success in engagement and fundraising. He launched the inaugural Month of Giving campaign - the Triton Family Challenge- in 2021–22, helping generate new donor support. The Tritons have broken records each year since, with $90,694 raised from 402 donors in November 2023, and $129,832 raised from 575 donors in November 2024. Evers also helped revive the Tritons Dinner Auction in April 2023 after a four-year hiatus, setting fundraising records in both 2023 and 2024, including over $200,000 raised in the most recent event in 2025.
Evers has also been instrumental in enhancing athletic facilities. He played a key role in the $3.5 million renovation of the McArthur Center, which featured a redesigned entrance, updated sports medicine facility, new locker rooms, a student-athlete lounge, navy bleachers, and a refreshed court design. In 2023–24, he supported the $600,000 renovation of the Baker Beach Volleyball Complex, which added four varsity courts, berm seating, and live streaming capabilities.
He has led the Matthew T. McDermott Annual Golf Scholarship Tournament to four consecutive years of record-setting participation and sponsorship while also driving growth in the Athletics Annual Scholarships and the McDermott Annual Golf Scholarship.
Prior to his advancement role, Evers directed all NCAA and Sunshine State Conference compliance and business operations as Assistant Athletic Director for Compiance.Â
Nationally, he completed the NCAA's Leadership Academy Workshop (LAW), and served on the NCAA Women’s Golf South Region Advisory Committee.
A standout member of the Eckerd baseball team from 2000–2004, Evers showcased positional versatility, playing third base, first base, right field, and pitching. He threw two no-hitters in his career—one during summer league play as a senior and one against second-ranked Rollins College in just his fifth collegiate start. In 2004, he received the prestigious James R. Harley Award.Â
Following graduation with a degree in Management and Athletic Administration, Evers was selected in the 35th round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. He went on to pitch professionally in their minor league system from 2004 to 2008. He later earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University.
Evers’ connection to Eckerd runs deep—his father, Bill Evers, Sr., also played for the Tritons in the late 1970s and was inducted into the Eckerd College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003.
