Steve Frew

Steve Frew '88

Steve Frew rejoined his alma mater in the summer of 2024 as an assistant coach working primarily with the pitching staff. Frew has been a fixture in the dugout next to Head Coach Michelle Frew throughout her career. he enters his second year on the Tritons staff for the 2026 season. 

In his first season with the Tritons, he helped the team to a 30-20 record, the second most wins in program history, while setting the single-season wins mark for SSC game. He led the pitching staff to 323 strikeouts, doubleing their total from the previous year. Brandily Reymer set the single-season strikeout record. 

In 2024, he helped guide the University of Charleston to the World Series following a program-record 51-8 record. 

In 2023 and 2024, the Golden Eagles staff finished with a 1.77 ERA and 1.89 ERA, respectively, both marks ranked 15th nationally. Both years, the team's WHIP ranked in the top five in the national rankings as well. UC set the programs shutout record twice, a record which stood for over 40 years. 

At Rollins, the team's ERA ranked among the top 10 in Division II NCAA  13 times, including earning the top ranking in 2011 and 2019.

Over his career, Frew has assisted coaching 24 All-Americans, 96 all-region honorees, and 144 all-conference winners. 

Frew has also served as the assistant director of Michelle Frew's summer fastpitch camps and clinics for more than two decades.

Frew has been developing younger pitchers in camps, clinics, and through pitching lessons for two decades. 

Frew has served as an official scorer for the Orlando Rays minor league baseball team and at Walt Disney's Wide World of Sports events including the WNBA. Frew also filled the role of spotter/statistician for Florida Citrus Sports NCAA Bowl Games and the Orlando Predators Arena Football Club.

A 1988 graduate of Eckerd, Frew was a pitcher on the baseball team. He received a master's degree from Slippery Rock University in 1991 and a doctoral degree in higher education from Nova Southeastern in 2001. 

Frew works for Phoenix Defense as an Integration and Test lead. Steve is married to Michelle and they have two children Erin and and Dylan.Â
