ST. PETERSBURG – The Eckerd men's soccer team used a three-goal second half to pull away from the Ave Maria Gyrenes for a 4-0 victory on Senior Night at Johnson Field on Saturday.

Eckerd controlled the attack throughout the night, out-shooting Ave Maria 13-4 while holding the Gyrenes without a shot on goal.

Monty Clark broke the scoreless tie in the 42nd minute, finding the back of the net for his first goal of the season to send the Tritons into halftime with a 1-0 advantage. Eckerd doubled up the visitors with a 4-2 advantage in shot attempts in the first period.

The Tritons kept the pressure on after the break before breaking the game open late. Gavin Spuler doubled the advantage in the 77th minute with his first goal of the year.

Eckerd then struck twice in just over a minute. Tristan Bassette made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute before Marcio Costa added his second goal of the season at 83:06 off an assist from Connar MacKay to cap the scoring.

Costa led Eckerd with three shots, including two on target, while Clark and Bassette each recorded two shots. Bassette put both of his attempts on frame. Spuler scored on his lone shot of the contest.

Duran van Woerkom earned the clean sheet in goal as the Triton defense limited Ave Maria to four total shots and none on frame. Eckerd placed six of its 13 attempts on goal.

The four goals marked a season high for Eckerd, surpassing its three-goal output in the season-opening victory over Middle Georgia State.

Eckerd returns to Sunshine State Conference action Wednesday, traveling to Tampa for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
