ST. PETERSBURG – Tyler Brashear pitched a complete on Sunday to lead the Eckerd baseball team to a 2-1 win over the No. 2 Tampa Spartans.
The day started with resumption of yesterday's suspended game. Tampa got the final three outs in the ninth inning to seal up a 15-3 victory.
Christian Cabina hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning of the contest to even the score at 2-2, but the Spartans used a 10-run seventh to pull away.
On Sunday, each team scored once in the second inning, with the Tritons seeing theirs come in on a
Gabe Campos two-out RBI infield single. Brashear proceeded to retire the next 18 Tampa batters, 19 in total counting the final out of the second. Eckerd tallied the go-ahead run in the seventh after Campos singled to center with two outs and nobody on. One pitch later,
Jake Ambrosio sent a double to left-center to bring in Campos all the way from first.
The Spartans finally saw base runners against Brashear in the ninth, putting three on due to two walks and an error. Brashear struck out the final hitter to strand the bases loaded and clinch the 2-1 victory.
Campos and Ambrosio led the offense with two hits apiece, while Brashear struck out nine.
Eckerd will close out the regular season next weekend at Saint Leo.
