ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons women's tennis team picked up a home win over the visiting Ave Maria Gyrenes on Wednesday by a score of 7-0.
Eckerd secured two of three doubles matches for the early point, beginning with a win by default at No. 3 credited to
Maialen Idiakez and
Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti.
Olivia Lindestaf and
Catherine Cole sealed the point with a 6-1 victory at No. 1.
In singles, all six matches were won by the Tritons.
Lara Machado and
Morgan O'Connor won by default at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, with Lindestaf clinching the team win at No. 1 with a quick 6-0, 6-0 final. Idiakez did not drop a game in her first set at No. 3, and won her second set 6-2 to complete the victory. Sanchez Bronzetti made it a 2-0 day with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-0 No. 2 victory, while
Soleia Rutter picked up a three-set victory at No. 4 to round out the sweep.
Eckerd improves to 11-4 with the win and will next visit No. 12 Lynn on Friday.
