ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons baseball team dropped a non-conference game to the Saint Leo Lions on Tuesday by a score of 16-4.
The visitors tallied a run in the top half of the first for the early lead, but the Tritons earned it right back in the bottom half as
Kam Gelwick delivered a two-out RBI single to even the score. Saint Leo broke the game open with a six-spot in the top of the second, tallying five hits to help bring a 7-1 lead into the third.
A scoreless third inning followed, but the Lions added on to their total with a single tally in the top half of the fourth and sixth innings. Eckerd countered with three of its own in the bottom half of the sixth after five straight batters reached base.
Luis Garrido was responsible for the first run after being issued a walk with the bases loaded before the next came around on a wild pitch.
Dawson Jones capped off the scoring surge with a sac fly.
Saint Leo pushed the game into run-rule territory with seven in the seventh.
The Tritons will be back in action Friday when they open a three-game road series at Barry.
