COCHRAN, Ga. -- The Eckerd baseball dropped the series finale on Saturday against the Middle Georgia State Knights, falling by a score of 16-6.
The Tritons fell behind early after the home team struck for three in the opening inning, but responded with two in the third to trim the deficit to just one. A sac fly by
Ean Gimson began the scoring for Eckerd, followed by an RBI double from
Hunter Rebhan to make it a 3-2 game.Â
After a scoreless fourth, the Tritons claimed the lead in the fifth with a three-spot, beginning with another RBI from Gimson to even the score at 3-3.
Corey Hodierne gave Eckerd the lead with a bunt single before Rebhan drove in his second run of the contest with an RBI single. The Tritons led 5-3 after five.
Dawson Jones produced an insurance run in the sixth a run-scoring single, but the team endured a scoring surge from the Knights in the seventh and eighth. Middle Georgia State scored five in the seventh and eight more in the eighth to take the game 16-6.
Jones finished 3-3 at the plate to lead the Tritons.
Ecked will be back in action Tuesday vs. No. 10 Florida Southen.
