ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd women's tennis team picked up its second 7-0 victory of the season on Thursday, downing the visiting Mary Marauders at home to improve to 3-2 on the year.
Eckerd took all three doubles matches to claim the early point. Olivia Lindestaf and Catherine Cole picked up a 6-4 victory at the top spot, while Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti and Maialen Idiakez grabbed a 6-3 decision at No. 2. Laura Ullrich and Fiona Orza earned a quick 6-1 win at No. 3, giving the Tritons a 1-0 lead entering singles play.
All six matches were decided in straight sets in favor of Eckerd. Lindestaf did not drop a game in the opening set before claiming a 7-5 win in the second to wrap up the No. 1 slot. Sanchez Bronzetti and Ullrich each battled through 7-5 victories to collect wins at No. 2 and No. 4, while Cole was the other Triton to notch a 6-0 set win in her victory at No. 5. Lara Machado stepped in at the No. 6 position and took down her opponent 6-3, 6-2, while Idiakez secured a pair of 6-1 set victories at No. 3.
Eckerd will be back in action tomorrow at No. 14 Florida Southern.
