WINTER PARK, Fla. - Despite out-hitting the Tars in the day's opener, the Eckerd baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader, falling 8-4 in game one, and 14-3 (seven innings) in the series finale at Alfond Stadium.
Eckerd battled back after an early deficit but couldn't erase a big first-inning hole. The Tritons gave up eight runs in the first three innings, including a three-run homer in the second and another in the third, before reliever Jacob Thomas shut down the Tars with five no-hit innings out of the bullpen. Eckerd chipped away with a run in the fourth on Dawson Jones' RBI single and added two more in the sixth on RBI hits from Jones and Joey Bazydlo. The late-innings effort by the Tritons was not enough to overcome the deficit, dropping the opener 8-4.
Like game one, Eckerd couldn't recover from a first-inning hole, dropping the series finale to Rollins, 14-3 in seven innings by run-rule. The Tritons gave up eight runs in the opening frame and trailed 13-3 by the end of the fourth despite a strong effort at the plate, racking up 10 hits. Eckerd strung together a three-run third inning, with RBI hits from Dylan Escobar, Christian Cabina, and Dawson Jones, but it was not enough for the Tritons to overcome the 11-run deficit.
