ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After leading nearly the whole game, the Eckerd baseball team fell to Shippensburg (Pa.), 9-7, falling behind in the eighth at the Turley Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon.Â
For the first time in the series, the Tritons struck first, working up to a three run lead on a pair of RBI singles by Chrisitan Cabina and Chrisitan Perez, while a bases-loaded walk brought the Tritons up to a 3-0 favor. The Raiders countered with their first of five homeruns in the next frame to shorten the deficit. Three scoreless innings ensued before Morris' first jomerun of the day brought Shippensburg within one. The Raiders tied it in the sixth before Eckerd quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the frame, with Cabina earning his second RBI of the day.Â
The Raiders crept back into the game in the seventh, scoring on a double play before a pair of back-to-back homeruns against Tritons' reliever, Nick Rainey, for Shippensburg to take its first lead of the day, 6-5. The Tritons were not done yet, with a sacrifice fly by Coltin Pizzio, and Joey Bazydlo scoring on a wild pitch in the seventh, Eckerd regained the lead 7-6. Morris' second homer of the day in the top of the eighth knotted the game at seven apiece before a sacrifice fly gave the Raiders the advantage. Shippensburg added an insurance run in the ninth, and  closed the door for the Tritons to fall 9-7.Â
