ORLANDO, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team defeated Davenport (Mich.) 4-3 at the USTA National Campus Friday afternoon.
Eckerd (3-2) swept the doubles point against the Panthers (10-3) and clinched the win with three singles positions coming out on top.
Batu Ataseven and Mario Kirkov in the No. 1 position and Marshall Hulett with Adrian Gheorghe in the No. 2 slot, defeated their doubles opponents 6-2. Eric Asakura along with Lukas Palla narrowly defeated their opponents 7-6 to sweep the doubles point for Eckerd.
Gheorghe, in the No. 5 slot, finished first for Eckerd, giving the Tritons a 2-0 lead. Gheorghe swept Henriquez 6-0, 6-1. Ataseven played a strong match, upsetting his opponent two sets to one. Palla defeated his opponent through three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, securing the win for the Tritons.
Eckerd returns to action on Wednesday, March 5 at 2:00 PM at the Fred Bullard Courts.
