ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team fell to No. 35 Lynn after the match was suspended for three hours due to weather, 4-3 at the Bullard Courts Sunday afternoon.
The Tritons (1-1) fell to the Knights (3-1) after earning the doubles point and taking two singles matches. This is the first time since February 19, 2019 that Eckerd put up three points against a conference opponent (Florida Tech).Â
The Tritons took the doubles point in a thriller in the No. 3 spot. Adrian Gheorghe and Marshall Hulett took the No. 2 pairing 7-5, giving Eckerd a chance to take the doubles point. Eric Asakura and Lukas Palla battled in the No. 3 doubles, clinching the doubles point in tiebreak, 7-6 (15-13).Â
Batu Ataseven and Gheorghe gave Eckerd their only two singles wins in the first and last singles spots. Ataseven took the top singles match in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Gheorghe picked up his second singles win in as many days in the No. 6 spot in two sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Eckerd hosts Bates at home on Friday at 2:00 PM at the Bullard Courts.Â
