ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - After dropping the opener, 8-3, the Eckerd baseball team rallied late in game two, nearly forcing extra innings. However, the Tritons dropped game two, 5-4, and the doubleheader on the road at Flagler (Fla.) on Saturday afternoon.
In the opener, Eckerd took a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning after Kam Gelwick delivered an RBI single in the fifth, followed by RBIs from Ryan Gargett and Dylan Escobar in the sixth. However, the Saints took the lead in a four-run sixth inning. They added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and eighth to seal the 8-3 win.
In the nightcap, FC jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with a pair of two-run singles in the fourth. An RBI single in the seventh gave the Saints a 5-0 favor. Eckerd responded with four runs in the final two frames as Gelwick smashed his third homerun of the season with a two-run shot in the eighth. Zade Stark made it a 5-4 game in the ninth with a two-run double. However, Eckerd was unable to rally any further.
