ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team dropped its SSC opener with Embry-Riddle, 3-1, on Friday night as the Eagles rallied in the sixth inning.
Eckerd struck early with a run in the third inning for a 1-0 lead. Lexi Difato reached on an error and stole second. She advanced to third on a flyout before scoring on Ella Coiner's single to left.
Brandilyn Reymer kept the Eagles off balance, allowing just one runner in scoring positon through the first five innings. The Eagles rallied for three runs to take the lead in the sixth. Two Eagles reached on a pair of errors with two outs. An RBI single to left tied the game before a two-run single gave ERAU a 3-1 lead.
Mia Hernandez led off the seventh with a single and moved to third, but Eckerd was unable to rally, falling 3-1.
