ALBANY, Ga. - After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Eckerd baseball team rallied back to a 5-3 win over Albany State (Ga.) on opening day.
Dearl Edens set the tone on the mound, striking out seven over four innings while allowing just one earned run. The Tritons' offense came alive in the sixth, capitalizing on an error and key hits, including a two-RBI single by Cole Schumaker. Luis Garrido led the way with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double, while Dawson Jones added a stolen base. Carson Womer provided four solid relief innings before Max Folkman closed the game, securing the win despite a late push by Albany State.
While Albany State managed to outhit Eckerd 8-6, they struggled to convert opportunities, leaving eight runners on base. The Golden Rams struck first in the second inning but couldn't sustain momentum against Eckerd's pitching staff. A solo home run by Addison in the eighth and a sacrifice fly in the ninth brought Albany State closer, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. Lee took the loss, surrendering four unearned runs in relief. Eckerd's four-run sixth inning was enough to hold on, as the Tritons took the 1-0 series lead by a score of 5-3 on opening day.
