ORLANDO, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team defeated the Stonehill College Skyhawks (Mass.), 6-1, at the USTA National Campus on Friday morning.
The Tritons (4-5) defeated the Skyhawks (4-8) after dropping the doubles point, then coming back to win all six singles matches.
Batu Ataseven and Christian Kearns knocked off the Skyhawks' top pairing of Jacob Borch Nielson and Jacob Wilhelm Krefting, 6-4. With the Tritons dropping the three's spot, 6-0, it was a battle for the point in the No. 2 draw. Mario Kirkov and Marshall Hulett were outlasted in tiebreak, falling 7-6 (7-2).
Eckerd swept all six singles matches. Kirkov and Asakura both won their matches with their opponents retiring. Hulett had a close set one, defeating Javier Pemueller in tiebreak 7-6 (7-4) before taking the point on a 6-1 set two victory.
Kearns battled in the No. 2 position, taking both sets in tiebreak 7-6 (7-5), and 7-6 (8-6).
Eckerd returns home Sunday for senior day as they host West Chester University (Pa.) at 1:00 PM at the Fred Bullard Courts.
