ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's tennis team fell to No. 5 Barry, 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Fred Bullard Courts.
The Tritons (6-7, 0-3 SSC) fell to the Buccaneers (8-1, 2-0 SSC) after dropping the doubles point in a split decision, and falling in all six singles matches.
Eckerd dropped the doubles point in a split decision, 2-1 to open the day. Christian Kearns and Batu Ataseven picked up a big doubles win in the top pairing, knocking off opponents Joao Ferreria and Adam Lynch 6-2.
Ataseven, Mario Kirkov, and Marshall Hulett each forced their singles matches to three sets. In the No. 1 singles, Ataseven dropped a heartbreaker after going up 6-4 in the first set. He fell in the second set 6-3, while battling to tiebreak in set three. Ataseven dropped the tiebreak 7-0.
After falling behind 7-5 in set one, Kirkov battled back to take set two 6-4 in the No. 2 position. He ultimately fell in set three 6-4.
Like Ataseven, Hulett went up 6-2 in set one before dropping set two 6-1. He fell in set three 6-4.
The Tritons play their final non-conference matchup Monday, as they host Franklin Pierce University at the Fred Bullard Courts at 11:00 AM.
