Tritons Drop Twinbill at Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team dropped its season finale at Ad Griffin Stadium on Saturday, falling in the opener 15-1 and 8-4 in the finale to Nova Southeastern. 

NSU took an early 5-0 lead with two runs in the first and three in the second frame. 

Eckerd got on the board in the third. Ella Coiner led off the inning with a double before scoring as part of a double steal. However, the Sharks added 10 runs in the bottom of the frame on 10 hits to take the game. 

The Sharks scored early as well in the finale, with a run in each of the first three innings. 

Lauren Margolis smacked a solo homerun in the fourth before Brenna Loleinsky added an RBI single in the fifth to pull within one, 3-2. However, the Sharks posted four runs in the fifth inning. 

NSU added another run in the sixth for an 8-2 favor. Eckerd rallied in the seventh, as Coiner delivered a bases-loaded single before Margolis delivered a sacrifice fly. However, Eckerd was unable to complete the comeback.

NOTES AND NUMBERS 

  • Lokeinsky ends the season with 59 hits, ranking tied for second in program records behind Sherry Howell with 65. 
  • Ella Coiner ends the season with 56 hits, tied for eighth in single-season records. Coiner finished the season with 20 stolen bases, ranking ninth in single season records and the most stolen bases since 2019. 
  • Margolis drew two walks in the opener, moving her career total to 84, and setting the career walks record. She surpasses Kaycie Duncan who had 83.  
  • Margolis' homerun in the finale was her fourth of the season and the 11th of her career. 
  • Lokeinsky, Skylar Redish, and Brooklyn Cardona collected two hits each in the finale. 
  • With the season's final game, Lokeinsky, Redish, Cardona, and Jenice Casanas ended their careers.
