ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team rallied late in both contests but was unable to complete a pair of comebacks as they dropped the doubleheader with Rollins by scores of 8-6 and 9-8 at the Turley Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon.
A two-run homerun put Rollins ahead in the opening frame of game one. Eckerd answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on Skylar Redish's groundout. However, the Tars added five runs in the next inning on four hits and three errors for a 7-1 lead.
Eckerd added two runs in the fourth on a wild pitch and Ella Coiner's RBI single. The Tars tacked on a run in the fifth, but Lauren Margolis pulled Eckerd within two, 8-6, on a three-run homerun blasted down the left field line in the sixth. However, EC was unable to complete the comeback.
The Tritons scored in the opening frame of the finale with three runs scoring on two errors. RC added two runs in the second, but Eckerd took a 5-3 favor in the bottom of the frame on a two-run single by Margolis.
Rollins added a run in the third to pull within one run before taking a 9-5 favor with six runs in the fifth.
Eckerd rallied late with three runs over the last two innings on a Brenna Lokeinsky solo homerun in the sixth and a two-run shot by Addisan Langston in the seventh. However, the comeback bid fell short.
