Tritons Edge Panthers on the Road

MELBOURNE, FLA. - After three scoreless innings, the Eckerd baseball team jumped out to a four-run lead, which paced the Tritons' 9-7 victory over the Panthers at the Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tritons had the bases loaded with no outs in the fourth. However, the Panthers threw out Jake Andriole and Kyle Abbott at home on back-to-back plays to limit EC, but Kam Gelwick was hit by a pitch to bring home Kyle Ericsson for the 1-0 nod. Joe Muzio scored on a wild pitch to extend the EC lead to two. A two-run single to center field by Tyler Cox led the Tritons to a 4-0 favor.

The Panthers responded with a pair of runs in the sixth to shorten their deficit to two.

In the seventh, back-to-back singles by Abbott and Ericsson brought the Triton lead back to four. Muzio brought home Andriole on a sacrifice fly to end the inning leading 7-2.

Florida Tech was persistent in chipping away at Eckerd's lead, adding another run in the sixth. Eckerd added its final two runs in the eighth, as Andriole was walked with the bases loaded, and Abbott added an RBI single.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth, Phan was walked for the Panthers' first run of the inning. A two-RBI double by Parrish shortened the Panther deficit back to two before Tucker Shalley struck out the last Panther of the night to cap off the 9-7 victory.
