ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team battled back from Friday night's loss to take the series over the Buccaneers with two double-digit run victories in the doubleheader. The Tritons took game two of the series 14-5 and the finale by a score of 10-4 at the Turley Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Tritons took game one in dominant fashion with three homeruns in the game.Â
Kyle Abbott got the Tritons started with an RBI single through the left side in the first frame. Kyle Ericson hit a solo homerun in the second before Dimi Nunez, and Michael Ballard had another pair of RBIs for the 4-0 nod. Tyler Cox hit a grand slam in the sixth to give the Tritons a 9-1 lead over the Bucs.Â
Cam Collier had three RBIs in game one, including a two-run homerun in the eighth, as the Tritons took the game 14-5. Cox earned the win, striking out four batters through six innings of work.Â
Eckerd opened the series finale in a 3-0 hole. Joe Wike put the Tritons on the board with an RBI groundout, allowing Collier to score, bringing EC within two in the first.Â
In the fifth, the Tritons got the go-ahead run, with Ballard hitting a two-run double to left field, and Cox collected his sixth RBI on the day. Eckerd never relinquished the lead, with Jake Andriole and Ericson adding in the seventh, Tritons up 6-3. A run by Ogden in the eighth brought the Bucs back within two before Eckerd took off in its final inning. Eckerd added another four runs in the bottom of the eighth to seal the game 10-4.
