ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Harry Laing's goal in the 70th minute was the difference as the Eckerd men's soccer team topped Flagler (Fla.) 1-0 at Johnson Field Saturday evening.
Flagler had an early look on goal in the 14th minute, but Aadan Leak turned back the close-range shot. The Tritons pressured late in the first half as Luchiono Rordiguez's shot was blocked in the 31st minute, and Tommy Shepherd's attempt was turned back in the 35th minute. Rodriguez had another quality run in the 39th minute but could not find the back of the net as the teams entered halftime scoreless.
Neither team placed a shot inside the first 20 minutes of the second half until Harry Laing's goal in the 70th minute. Laing was trying to send in a cross from the right side of the 18, but his pass went untouched and curled inside the far post for the 1-0 Tritons' lead. The Saints could not place another shot on frame as Eckerd won 1-0.
