ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Despite rallying to pull within a run in the seventh, the Eckerd baseball team dropped the Friday night series opener, 8-4, with Lynn as the Fighting Knights added four runs in the eighth at the Turley Athletic Complex.
Lynn got on the board first with a run in the fourth on a single up the middle. LU made it a 4-1 game in the next frame with a two-run single and an RBI single up the middle.
Danny Gutcher put EC on the board in the fifth on an RBI single up the middle.
The Tritons continued their rally in the seventh for two runs on a Gutcher RBI single and RBI double by Joe Muzio.
The Knights added four runs in the eighth for an 8-3 favor. Eckerd responded with one run in the bottom of the inning on Gutcher's sacrifice fly. However, EC was unable to make up the difference.
